Qarabağ played its next match in European competitions. Competing in the UEFA Europa League, Qurban Qurbanov's team played their sixth group-stage match. The game took place at Borås Arena against Sweden's Elfsborg.
Starting Line-up: 99. Mateusz Kochalski, 44. Elvin Jafarguliyev (90. Nariman Akhundzade, 86'), 2. Mateus Silva, 55. Badavi Huseynov, 29. Marko Vešović (27. Toral Bayramov, 77'), 6. Julio Romao (11. Emmanuel Addai, 78'), 8. Marko Janković (66. Patrick Andrade, 86'), 7. Yassin Benzia, 10. Abdellah Zoubir, 21. Aleksei Kashuk (15. Leandro Andrade, 66'), 18. Juninho.
Despite being an away match, Qarabağ’s players took control from the referee's opening whistle. They passed the ball around in the opposition’s half, looking for gaps. Elfsborg, on the other hand, was forced into full defense. The hosts crowded the backline and relied on quick counterattacks, but Qarabağ skillfully defused these attempts without conceding danger. Toward the end of the first half, Qarabağ increased the pressure, creating two clear scoring opportunities through Juninho, but failed to convert. Meanwhile, Mateusz Kochalski made an excellent save during the hosts' only dangerous attack in the first half.
The second half started with both sides trading attacks, but the breakthrough came in the 57th minute when the hosts scored. After conceding, Qarabağ regained control of possession and increased pressure, creating several dangerous situations near the opponent’s goal. However, these efforts didn’t pay off, and Elfsborg secured a 1-0 victory at home.
Qarabağ will face Romania’s FCSB in the 7th round of the group stage on January 23, 2025, in Baku.
