"Qarabağ" played their next match in European competitions. Competing in the Europa League, Gurban Gurbanov's team participated in their seventh match of the League stage. Our team hosted Romania's FCSB at the Tofiq Bahramov Republican Stadium.
Our team played with the following lineup: 97. Fabijan Buntić, 13. Bahlul Mustafazada (29. Marko Vešović, 70), 81. Kevin Medina, 2. Mateus Silva, 44. Elvin Jafarguliev, 6. Julio Romao (66. Patrick Andrade, 70), 8. Marko Janković, 15. Leandro Andrade (11. Emmanuel Addai, 81), 21. Aleksei Kaschuk (27. Toral Bayramov, 81), 10. Abdellah Zoubir (c), 90. Nariman Akhundzada (22. Musa Gurbanlı, 81).
Starting the match excellently, our players managed to open the scoring before the first minute was up. Leandro Andrade outsmarted the opposing defender and won a one-on-one duel with the goalkeeper. Although our team continued relentless attacks, the visitors soon equalized. The Romanian team capitalized on a set-piece situation.
Nevertheless, our players, undeterred, continued to keep the opponent's defensive line under pressure. As the half progressed, the tempo increased. In one attack, following a cross from the left wing by Elvin Jafarguliev, the ball deflected off an FCSB defender and found the net. However, the visiting team equalized again, converting another corner just seconds before halftime.
The second half was also dominated by our team. However, the visitors, defending with great numbers, managed to fend off the attacks, albeit with difficulty. Amidst this pressure, it was the Romanians who scored next. FCSB's third goal came from another corner. Trailing in the match, our team spent the final minutes entirely on the attack. The visitors, however, held on with tight defense and denied an equalizing goal. As a result, FCSB secured a 3:2 victory in this five-goal encounter.
It should be noted that "Qarabağ" will face Greece's "Olympiacos" on January 30 in their final League stage match.
