Chelsea’s Gerrard Bid Rejected

Chelsea have had a bid thought to be £32 million rejected for Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard. The news comes after Gerrard broke off talks with the Anfield club over a new contract. "I can confirm we have had a bid from Chelsea and that it will be rejected by us," Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry told BBC Sport. Liverpool have now offered Gerrard a deal worth £100,000-a-week but are said to be doubtful that he will stay. Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez confirmed on Monday that the club had approached Gerrard three times last season over the extension of his contract and on each occasion he had told them to wait. Meanwhile, Real Madrid have confirmed that they will not make an approach until the player hands in a transfer request. Director of football Arrigo Sacchi said: "Of course we are interested in him, what big club isn’t?" "Until the player makes a move we are not going to be involved in a fight for his services."
