Confederations Cup Wrap: Mexico & Brazil In Latin One-Two
It was a good night for the Americas in the Confederations Cup as first Mexico came from behind to beat Japan 2-1 in their Group B opener, then world champions Brazil crusaded to a 3-0 win over European champions Greece.
In Hannover, Atsushi Yanagisawa’s gave Japan a 12th minute lead with a tap-in, but just before half-time Mexico’s Brazilian-born forward Zinha equalised with an outstanding long-range shot.
And in a second-half they dominated, Mexico got the winner with a Jose Fonseca header from Luis Perez’s cross on 64 minutes. The win extended Mecico’s unbeaten run to 19 matches.
A little later in Leipzig, Internazionale striker Adriano put Brazil in the ascendancy with a superb inswinger and a minute after the break highly-rated Santos star Robinho doubled the selecao’s lead when Gilberto Silva burst through the Greek defence.
Substitute Juninho Pernambucano, on for Kaka, got the third four minutes later with a great free-kick.
