MAGATH PONDERS JOB OFFER FROM HAMBURG

Felix Magath admits he needs more time to decide whether he will take the post of coach at Hamburg which became vacant on Thursday with the sacking of Thomas Doll. Magath, who himself was fired by Bayern Munich on Wednesday, has begun talks with the club where he began his coaching career, but the 53-year-old told Hamburger Abendblatt newspaper that the move may have arisen too soon after his shock departure from Munich. Hamburgs offer comes very early, he said. I do not know whether I am ready to accept a new job right after the sacking by Munich. Hamburg is close to my heart. There is no other team I would have started negotiating with so quickly. Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness had earlier suggested that the move was a fait accompli. Hoeness said: We had no problems with him and he always gave everything for us and I think it is great that he has found another job immediately. I am sure he can turn the corner with Hamburg and help them avoid relegation. If you knew the affinity Magath had with Hamburg - HSV was always a big love of his along with Bayern - then you can see this is just a natural consequence. Hamburg earlier sacked Doll after the Bundesliga strugglers slipped to the bottom of the table with Wednesdays draw against Energie Cottbus. Hamburg have recorded only one win in the league all season, and Wednesdays 1-1 result was their 12th draw.
